We have upgraded our test database to Apex 4.2. There are a couple of dozen applications there and I want to do a an update of the image prefix for them all at once by directly updating the wwv_flows table rather than editing each individual application.
Is it safe to update every row in the wwv_flows table, or do thing like Themes still need to reference '/i/'? If so, is there an easy way to distinguish which rows relate to Applications, so that I can just update those rows?
I would not recommend update APEX internal tables directly.
In APEX install files under folder "utilities" there is script reset_image_prefix.sql
That will reset/set all applications image prefix

According to Patrick Wolf the reset_image_prefix.sql script only updates the instance default and the Application Builder, not the individual applications.
See this thread 4.2 reset image prefix sql error
Is this not the case?
