Log onto Informatica Admin Console
Domains --> Properties --> SMTP Configuration
Enter SMTP server name , port no , user name ,passwd , and restart the informatica domain.

I tried that but it didn't work.
defined email parameter in workflow properties. configured session componenet properties for email success and failure. restarted integration server still not working. . also copied mapi32.dll from C:\WINDOWS\system32 to informatica/server/bin folder.
anything else is missing here
do I need to pass any parameters using parameter file?
