Sounds like you don't have write privs to the sql developer installation path.1 person found this helpful
Find the sqldeveloper.conf file in the bin directory and edit the file to include the path where it says SetJavaHome
Also, we don't officially support Windows 8 at this point. Be sure to let us know how it goes though, and include some screenshots so the other Windows nerds can get an idea of what it looks like.
Thanks Jeff. You suggestion helped me figure out a simpler solution.
I ended up running the app "As Administrator" which gave me the appropriate write access to save the configuration. Now that it has been saved, I can start the app normally and not get prompted anymore.
