Currently we have 22.214.171.124 database built on ASM - stand alone linux server. We need to upgrade OS version from RHEL5.8 to RHEL6.3. OS guy will upgrade OS and use udev to build the ASM disks.
What steps to be performed from database side to make sure all are in place. Do i need to recreate ORADATA and ORAFLASH diskgroups?
Can you provide me the steps how the process will go with the OS upgrade?
You no need to re-create the ASM disks. ASMLIB is not exactly license factor for Redhat Linux. The Reason is below..
For RHEL 6, Oracle will provide ASMLib software and updates only when configured with a kernel distributed by Oracle. Oracle will not provide ASMLib packages for kernels distributed by Red Hat as part of RHEL 6. ASMLib updates will be delivered via Unbreakable Linux Network (ULN), which is available to customers with Oracle Linux support. ULN works with both Oracle Linux or Red Hat Linux installations, but ASMLib usage will require replacing any Red Hat kernel with a kernel provided by Oracle.
