I am able to connect to db_1 database as SYS, though. It's the EM console that I can't manage to start.

I've searched many forums, but haven't been able to find a solution yet. Nothing in the installation steps on configuring OC4J admin account either. Please help.

Thank you.

    Recreate dbcontrol
    emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
    emca -config dncontrol db -repos -create
    or use dbca

    Thanks Osama for reply. Just for others, the correct syntax of commands is:

    #> emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop
    #> emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create

    I've tried to deconfig the repository, but it threw an error about not being able to delete a log directory. Running it again complained about missing sysman\config\emoms.properties file.

    I've decided to do complete uninstall and then re-install everything from scratch again. I'll keep you posted on the progress. I've never had issues installing 10g before. Not sure why 11g is giving me such hard time.

    Also try removing special characters ("-") from your computer name - these have been known to cause issues with installation

    This is my host file now.:

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    ::1 localhost
    10.10.10.10 w500.colddata.com w500

    One thing I am not sure what IP should I put next to my computer name. My local IP is "10.10.2.101". The one I have in the host file is made up non-routable IP that I picked when setting up loopback adapter. My local subnet is "10.10.2.x/255.255.255.0". Is my host file correct?

    Here is the output of the "ipconfig" command:

    If this is a fixed IP, then use 10.10.2.101 in your hosts file.

    I have a reserved IP via DHCP when I am at home. However, when I take my laptop to the office, I get a different IP (from 10.10.1.x/255.255.255.0 subnet). Should I keep "10.10.10.10" in the host file then? Please keep in mind that this IP does not exists on any of the subnets -- neither home, nor office. This was the IP suggested to be used in the instructions for setting up Microsoft loopback adapter. Is it OK to keep this IP as is? Is it OK that my computer name resolves to an IP that doesn't exist?

    Yes it should work with 10.10.10.10

    did you configure LOOPBACK prior to starting?
    consider having ORACLE_SID to 8 characters or fewer

    Yes I did configure the loopback:

    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3 (MS Loopback Adabpter):
    Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
    Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::d4c9:45fb:efca:379c%26
    IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.10.10.10
    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.10.10.1

    The SID is "amgwebdev". It is 9 characters. Unfortunately, I don't have a luxury to pick the SID. I am required to match the existing one in the environment.
