    XE listner home page not starting

    n_shah18
      windows 7 ,64 bit i am trying to install XE

      step i followed till now

      I have Windows 7 x64 and a got the problem about the KEY_XE.reg not fount. I have tried a lot of configurations I have finally solved.

      We need do some thinks:

      1. Start the installer ‘Setup.exe’. Wait till ask about the path;
      2. Do not press next. Open with Windows Explorer the folder like this:
      C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Temp{60712028-B7B0-4EC3-9C28-663111EC954A}
      3. There will be a file “OracleMTSRecoveryService.reg”. Make a copy and rename the copy to KEY_REG.reg;
      4. Go to the installer and go ahead with the installation.

      You will not see any error about the KEY_XE.reg not found.

      further issue is this
      C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin>lsnrctl status

          Not sure if anyone has done a successful install on win-x64, I have no host to try it on. The x64 version for Windows is supposedly on the way, but not yet available.

          Try looking into the listener.log it should be in the ...oraclexe\app\oracle\diag\tnslsnr\<hostname>\listener\trace folder- any error messages might be helpful to help figure out why the listener won't start or stay running.

              Should have an ORA-nnnn or TNS-nnnn error message instead of "message ... not found" something isn't right with the environment.

              Try setting ORACLE_HOME and add its bin folder to your PATH variable, and check that your user is in the local admins and ora_dba groups:

              set ORACLE_HOME=C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server
              dir %ORACLE_HOME%
               ... just to make sure its right should be lots of folders
              set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%PATH%
              net localgroup administrators
               ...
              net localgroup ora_dba
               ...
              lsnrctl start
               ...

                  On Windows, you should NOT need to set ORACLE_HOME as a environment variable. A working install has the setting in the Registry.

                  Try:
                  set oracle_home=
                  sqlplus / as sysdba
                  SQL> @.[%ORACLE_HOME%].

                  Path=C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\bin
                  Is that the full PATH? Windows needs other dir paths as well.

                  You need to run lsnrctl start from a elevated command prompt (Run as administrator - even if logged in as a admin!).

                      That is not "still the same". Now you have "message ... not found" errors that you did not have above. Often caused by improperly set environment.

                      Show what you have - re-run commands requested above and use copy-paste of command line sessions.

                      Are you logged in as a local admin?

                      net start OracleXETNSListener

                      etc.

                          Again, do NOT set ORACLE_HOME. If install was complete, it is set by Registry value.

                          Remove environment variable ORACLE_HOME. Reboot the machine.

                          Verify per below (Assuming correct PATH setting):

                          set oracle_home -- should return "not defined"
                          sqlplus / as sysdba
                          SQL> @.[%oracle_home%]. -- says, as expected, unable to open but with the Home path, as found via PATH + Registry key values

                          Then retry:

                          c:\> lsnrctl start

                              Make sure PATH is set, with path to Oracle XE's bin folder prepended (the same as earlier).

                              Please post full copy paste of command line sessions. The above is cut and missing pieces. We need to see exactly what you have on your screen.
