Saving the profile photo outside of the Identity Store

We have connected our WebCenter Portal: Spaces 11g PS5 instance to an Active Directory instance that is read-only to us.
I was under the assumption that WebCenter is able to save the profile photos to a database instead of the Identity Store, but whenver I upload a picture I get a huge stack trace because the identity store is read only.

      Yet the documentation states:
"For Profile information, all but three attributes are stored and read from the LDAP identity store that is configured against WebCenter Spaces. The three exceptions include: the profile photo, status message, and expertise. These are stored with other WebCenter data in the WebCenter Repository."

Is there any way to instruct WebCenter not to attempt to write the profile photo to the underlying LDAP store?
