Is there a way to add a vnic to a LDOM . I am running a zone on the server that needs a virtual nic also. Here are the steps I have tried....but no luck.
LINK MEDIA STATE SPEED DUPLEX DEVICE
net0 Ethernet up 0 unknown vnet0
LINK CLASS MTU STATE OVER
net0 phys 1500 up --
dladm create-vnic -l net0 zone1
dladm: vnic creation over net0 failed: operation failed
Can this work.
I was told by oracle support that this issue would be fixed in Solaris 11.1. Well it appears it is not. I am on the latest SRU (as of writing): Version: 0.5.11 (Oracle Solaris 11.1 SRU 2.5) which I presume should now have all the 11.0 ported fixes. Can someone on the support team explain why this is still an issue?
Just FYI: The messages log also shows this when the operation fails:
Jan 12 17:29:23 tr-app1-g vnet: [ID 214931 kern.info] vnet0: vnet_addmac: programming macaddr(2:8:20:2b:bc:c6) is not supported
Jan 12 17:29:23 tr-app1-g vnic: [ID 675099 kern.warning] WARNING: cannot detach client: 22
You can do this if you are running ldomsmanager 126.96.36.199 or later, shipping in current Solaris 11.1 SRU. For a description, please see https://blogs.oracle.com/jsavit/entry/vnics_on_vnets_now_available
I hope that helps, Jeff
