Hi I'm getting the popular network adapter connection error....I have read thru a few of the threads and get confused by most.
At this point, I'm wondering if I'm specifying the wrong port....not sure how to confirm 1521 is what I should be using.
Any help would be appreciated,
Can you just post the error message you are getting and what tool and its version.
To check the port you can go the host where your listener is running , open a terminal and enter lsnrctl status which will show you the port.
Thanks for replying,
I SQL Developer version 3.1.07
When I run the new connection test, I get the error: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection
When I open a command prompt, and enter lsnrctl I get an error message saying it is not recognozed as an internal or external command
Also, this may sound stupid.....but I only downloaded the sql developer tool. I recently took an sql course and have the scripts to create a database. Do I need to download Oracle as well....in our course we were told all we needed was the developer tool?
ok, so now I've downloaded oracle 11g release 2....trying to run the install and I'm prompted for a proxyserver....from what I read, I tried localhost - didn't work, also the port is 80....tried 8080...not working.
again, any ideas would be appreciated......
so much for a simple download,
you are asked to provide proxy becuase installer is not able to connect to internet, You can just ignore the fields on the first screen, . If you click next you will be given a warning "you have not provided email address" just say yes and continue.
For easier installation you can try this as well http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/products/express-edition/downloads/index.html
It sounds like you've figured out the problem, but I wanted to share this link for others that come here with the same problem or question
