emca so fustrating - can't login/start/configure to dbconsole

    915297
Hi, I have configured and created repository for dbconsole - no errors on it.
however - at the end of the configuration it points to port 5500
AND on the status it shows 1158 port

      C:\Users\administrator.UPSNET>emctl status dbconsole

More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2182.

service is up on the windows services panel, but when I do status - it shows it is not running and I can't start it...

so - I'm thinking maybe it's a port issue so I want to change it to a different port:
but I get invalid username password on the sys password
eventhough I have a password file and connecting with sqlplus as sysdba using @orcl works just fine

Pl post exact OS details. What is the environment variable ORACLE_SID set to ? Where is the "orcl" database located - is it on the same machine and ORACLE_HOME as the server you are logged in to ? Pl post the output of the "set" command just before invoking the commands you have used.

Hi, thanks - but it didn't help - the emca -reconfig port does not create emca log! so when I get Invalid username/password I don't know if it's privileges, or invalid password. in both cases it would be weird because like I said - sqlplus sys/sasa@orcl as sysdba works just fine.
              orcl is local.

When you connect SYS AS SYSDBA, the password is immaterial - try connecting SYS/THIS_IS_GARBAGE AS SYSDBA and you will succeed - leading me to believe that "sasa" is not the correct password for SYS. Reset the password for SYS and try emca again. Pl post the other information I have requested above.

So why does emca needs sys password? if it can put anything there?

EMCA requires the correct SYS password because it is not connecting using SYSDBA privileges.

I've struggled with a similar situation - I was "convinced" I had the correct password, but emca kept refusing it.

The problem was that the password is case-sensitive, and I had to enclose it in double-quotes in order to coax emca to accept it.

how can it connect to sys not as sysdba? I want to try it myself, cause I'm quite sure password is what I wrote

I don't think you can login with SYS as a normal user:
                          C:\Users\paul>sqlplus sys@orcl

                          Enter password:
                          ERROR:
ORA-28009: connection as SYS should be as SYSDBA or SYSOPER
Did you try my suggestion of putting the password in quotes when you reply to the emca prompts?

If you want to connect as SYS as a normal user, you need to set the instance parameter O7_DICTIONARY_ACCESSIBILITY=TRUE

                              Hi,
                              a. putting the password in "" helped a little - I did not get the invalid username/password message -
however - I don't think it really logged on. needless to say - I did not find any log file.
                              b. so if changing the parameter 07_dictionary... enables you to connect as sys and not as sysdba, I still don't understand how does emca connects? since it doens't change that parameter I assume...
anyway - here is the current output. still around the same spot

                              C:\Users\administrator.UPSNET>D:\app\product\11.1.0\db_1\BIN\emca -reconfig ports -DBCONTROL_HTTP_PORT 5570

                                  ORA-12560 occurs for a myriad of different reasons;
                                  a) OS Services for listener or DB have not been started
                                  b) ORACLE_SID is not correct
                                  c) hostname does not resolve
                                  d) etc.

OK - some progress made - I'm looking now in D:\app\cfgtoollogs\emca and all the missing log files are there. (instead in the <sid> directory). anyway -
So you are fighting a similar battle to mine!
The fact that the log is not in the <sid> directory suggests you need to reply to Srini's earlier questions:
Pl post exact OS details. What is the environment variable ORACLE_SID set to ? Where is the "orcl" database located - is it on the same machine and ORACLE_HOME as the server you are logged in to ? Pl post the output of the "set" command just before invoking the commands you have used.
