    RMAN CLONING by offline backup location

    983528
      I am doing a cloning of DB 11.1.0 from PROD to TEST but
      os RHEL 5.5

      Click to add to Favorites          RMAN 11GR2 : DUPLICATE WITHOUT CONNECTING TO TARGET DATABASE [ID 874352.1]

      initv11dup.ora
      ------------
      db_name=v11dup
      db_unique_name=v11dup
      db_recovery_file_dest='/recovery_area'
      control_files='/oradata/v11dup/control01.ctl'
      audit_file_dest='/oradata/admin/v11dup'
      compatible='11.2.0.0.0'
      db_recovery_file_dest_size=100G
      diagnostic_dest='/oradata/admin/v11dup'

      If files are to be restored to a different location:

      db_file_name_convert=('<old path>' , '<new path>')
      log_file_name_convert=('<old path>' , '<new path>')

      is edited.

      rman auxiliary /

      RMAN> DUPLICATE DATABASE TO v11dup
      BACKUP LOCATION '/recovery_area/'
      NOFILENAMECHECK;

      is not working for same SID on the target database.it is asking for a target name.

          HI,

          This is an Oracle 11g Release 2 feature called 'backup-based duplication' and is only connecting to the Auxiliary instance, while prior versions required a connection to the TARGET and optional to the RMAN-catalog

          Yours is 11.1 , Not applicable to this feature

          Thanks,

            So what is the supplementary way for this?

              probably you are executing the code from PROD database. Clone database must be from TEST database (in your case)

              From test :
              $rman target <user>/<pwd>@PROD auxiliary /

              before run anything check and set the correct DBID:
              we are still from test:
              rman>SET DBID <PROD_DBID>

              another issue i saw in your code:
              RMAN> DUPLICATE DATABASE TO v11dup
              BACKUP LOCATION '/recovery_area'
              NOFILENAMECHECK;

              *"/recover_area" not "/recover_area/" (db_recovery_file_dest='/recovery_area')

              post error and code for more help

              ------------------------------
              found a curious post:

                Hi,

                You need to make connection to target refer this doc

                http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmdupdb.htm

                Thanks,
