In a one machine and I try add one disk to rpool:

#zpool status
pool: rpool
state: ONLINE
scan: none requested
config:

NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM
rpool ONLINE 0 0 0
c0d0s0 ONLINE 0 0 0

errors: No known data errors

#format -e c0d9
.
.
.
selecting c0d9
[disk formatted]
format> label
[0] SMI Label
[1] EFI Label
Specify Label type[0]:
Ready to label disk, continue? yes

format> ver

Primary label contents:

Volume name = < >
ascii name = <EMC-SYMMETRIX-5773 cyl 37998 alt 2 hd 15 sec 128>
pcyl = 38000
ncyl = 37998
acyl = 2
nhead = 15
nsect = 128
Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
0 root wm 0 - 37997 34.79GB (37998/0/0) 72956160
1 unassigned wu 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
2 backup wu 0 - 37997 34.79GB (37998/0/0) 72956160

4 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0

6 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
7 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0

#zpool add rpool c0d9s0
cannot add to 'rpool': root pool can not have multiple vdevs or separate logs
#zpool add rpool c0d9
cannot label 'c0d9': EFI labeled devices are not supported on root pools.

This machine is a LDOM, I read have a bug:6852962 in same cases Re: ZFS root mirroring, unable to attach mirror disk
but I have this patch (142909-17) installed.

I dont have any message in /var/adm/messages

Any help...

    'rpool' is special with regards to the valid configurations we allow. With the rpool, you can only have single vdevs or mirrors. You cannot create a concat/stripe or raidz rpool. If your intention is to create a mirror, use:

    # zpool attach rpool c0d0s0 c0d9s0

    Thanks Steve,

    About your explanation, I dont want create a mirror, just expand a pool. Probably is better create other pool.
    I just try do this because in other case I have one zone and I add one disk to this zone.

    You are welcome to create a new pool but one comment is that you can increase the size of the root pool
    disk by outright replacing it with a larger disk or attaching a larger disk and detaching the smaller disk.
    The steps are documented, here:

    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26502_01/html/E29007/gjtuk.html#ghzvz

    I believe that after the disk is detached, the root pool space is expanded. If not, set the auto expand
    property, like this:

    # zpool set autoexpand=on pool

    Thanks, Cindy

    Yes, its true but my problem is the disk I try add is smaller than the pool :(
    I create other pool.

    Thanks.
