Hi,
I have configured Oracle11g RAC ASM on two nodes and Active data Guard on one node on hp-unix.
RAC and Active Data Guard is up and running.

Now I want to test switchover from standby to primary and again primary to standby.
Please give me the steps.

Please Help

Thanks

    Have you configured Data Guard Broker?

    Does any of this run on hardware with an operating system and have a version number?

    On Primary:

    1.Check to see if sequence number is current on Primary and AGD.
    2. Verify the switch over status on Primary and AGD.
    3. Initiate switch over on the current primary - shutdown all running instances using srvctl and bring up one instance using sqlplus to avoid ORA-01105 error.
    4. Commit to Standby - alter database commit to switchover to physical standby with session shutdown;
    5. Shutdown immediate on the primary after processing above command.

    On AGD System:

    1.alter database recover managed standby database cancel;
    2. Stop all the instances using srvctl and mount one instance using sqlplus - startup nomount & alter database mount standby database;
    3. alter database commit to switchover to primary;
    4. Shutdown immediate;

    Last Step:

    1. Start New Physical standby using sqlplus in nomount mode and then mount standby database
    2. alter database open; this will open standby DB in read only mode.
    3. alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session using current logfile;
    4. Shutdown immediate;
    5. startup all AGD instance using SRVCTL

    Go To new Primary - startup all instances using SRVCTL.

    check the log sequence, switch over status and log_archive_dest_state_2 status.

    Please do not do this ... you don't ever want to do anything with Data Guard switchover or failover on a RAC cluster except through DG Broker.

    If you do it manually, and it can, make even the smallest mistake and you will get to rebuild from scratch.

    Again ... this advice looks good ... but not for RAC.
