Archive Process error.

Hi Exports,

I am getting the following Error Under the Application event log in the server manager windows. As i am the only DBA in this company i have the solve the server issue also.

*"archive process. error oracle instance prod. archival error. archiver continuing"*

My database is running in Windows O/S.

I checked the archive location as there is only 4 GB space free

Please Suggest Some solution for this.

    Do you have configured more than one destination? Or remote destinations(Data Guard) ?
    I think these are informational/waring messages and you database will be functioning normally. Can you check what is the status of all the redo log group members?
    Is there any huge load and there are no more INACTIVE redo groups to serve? I guess it is more issue with availability of INACTIVE redo groups.

    1) Share Alert log information.
    2) Get ASH report for that duration (Max 10 minutes)
    -- see any issues during logswitch/archiving?
    3) Check log history, How many archives been generated
    4) check redo log file size
    5) what is the status of redo log groups if issue still persists.

    Hi,

    I'm running on Windows as well and we see these alerts when there are no issues. I believe it could be down to having Data Guard installed, too. We ignore them and monitor space on the archived REDO log drive and any alerts from the Enterprise Manager.

    If you are receiving the [url http://www.ora00600.com/scripts/databaseconfig/ORA-00257.html]ORA-00257 error that is a different matter, and you need to resolve that straight away.

    Is the database functioning without any problems apart from those alerts in the event viewer?

    increase the fra size

    Unable to allocate flashback log of 1946 blocks from
    current recovery area of size 2147483648 bytes.
    Current Flashback database retention is less than target
    because of insufficient space in the flash recovery area.
    Flashback will continue to use available space, but the
    size of the flash recovery area must be increased to meet
    the Flashback database retention target
    Use ALTER SYSTEM SET db_recovery_file_dest_size command
    to add space. DO NOT manually remove flashback log files
    to create space.

    alter system set db_recovery_file_dest_size=10G; or you can increase the size according to your requirement.

    What error were you talking about in your original post?

    Error 12170 in your alert log is clearly says that your primary database couldn't connect to one of your standby databases. Check the output of 'show parameter dest' (you can post it here) and check connection to each SERVICE in each destination.

    If you don't need this standby database you can just disable it by setting LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_STATE_n=defer.

    Sure, if you don't need this standby anymore just execute 'alter system set log_archive_dest_state_2=defer' (this is the dynamic parameter) and errors 12170 in your alert log will disappear.

    Or, if you still need this standby database, you need to fix it: check its' state. It's probably down or its' listener is down .
