Impact of calling DCDataControl.commitTransaction() for Bean DC

I want to implement "warn about changes" upon cancel and came across this blog: http://jobinesh.blogspot.com/2011/05/checking-for-dirty-data.html

We are using Bean DC, and do not use any of the transaction apis of DCDataControl class. As per the blog its suggests to use DCDataControl.isTransactionModified() for checking if the data is modified. And explicitly call DCDataControl.commitTransaction() to reset the flag once the data is saved.

I want to know what will be the implication of calling DCDataControl.commitTransaction(), as in, is it safe to call it knowing that we don't use any transaction apis?

      Thanks for your time,
