Hoping someone can clear this up for me so I can stop thinking about it:)

We are (no rac) on windows 2008 and we do not use .net apps, visual studio or oracle development tools - at least not that I know of. We are a PeopleSoft shop.

The instructions on the security patch says to NOT use Opatch to patch ODAC but after opatch runs I can see the .dll files have been updated. Should I just ignore that opatch moved these files for me (which has been working fine) or should I be replacing these files with a manual copy and paste after the opatch apply runs?

Can anyone explain why the opatch copy of these files corrupts the install?

3.3.5 Patch Installation Instructions for ODAC installation

Note, do not use OPatch to patch an ODAC installation. Although it will not error, it will corrupt the install. Instead perform the following manual steps:

Take a backup of the files before replacing them with the new one's
      copy 14543813\files\odp.net\bin\4\Oracle.DataAccess.dll %OH%\odp.net\bin\4\Oracle.DataAccess.dll
