I have just done a fresh installation of Oracle Document Capture and want to import documents from a folder into UCM and apply Metadata into those documents. What are the precise steps that i need to follow? I have read the Oracle documentation but i didn't help. Thanks
import documents from a folder into UCM and apply Metadata into those documents
You can certainly use ODC (Import Server - see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E10316_01/capture/odcad.pdf , chapter 8) to do that.
ODC Import Server will grab the documents for you - you will need, then, to index them via Index Server (manually) or Recognition Server (automated), and finally Commit to UCM (you may use direct commit from Index, or Commit Server).
I am curious, however, why you intend to use ODC - you could use UCM's tools such as Batch Loader.
Yes, you can very well use ODC to migrate folder based documents into content server.
You will have to setup either an Folder Provider or an FTP Provider based on how you want ODC to connect to the current document repository.
Attaching metadata will be a different story altogether.
You will have to find logic to apply these metadata values to individual types of contents, based on this you can write a macro to apply this logic.
There is no straight answer to this frankly.
If these documents do have barcodes associated with them, then your job might be slightly easier to read the barcode through recognition server and apply the values.
