          Hope you copied the the password file from source to target host and renamed to the above given name.

            Standby db unique name is edu_stby
            Did you check the REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE parameter

            SQL> show parameter password;

            NAME                                 TYPE        VALUE
            ------------------------------------ ----------- ------------------------------
            remote_login_passwordfile            string      EXCLUSIVE
            Hope you copied the the password file from source to target host and renamed to the above given name.

              Can you access target server (ping <server>)

              Try connecting with edu_stby , username/password@edu_stby as sysdba
              tnsping edu_stby
              post output of lsnrctl on standby

                What was the syntax by which you created password file on primary database??

                The error that you are facing usually comes if you are entering the wrong password or you have not copied the password file properly??

                  Hi,

                  In 11g we need to transfer pwd file from primary to standby, just scp pwd file to standby, don't create it at standby and post the result and standby.

                  Regards,

                    Yes I can connect..

                    Primary: sqlplus <uname>/<pwd>@edu as sysdba
                    Standby: sqlplus <uname>/<pwd>@edu_stby as sysdba

                    Also, tnsping is working fine (tnsping edu, tnsping edu_stby)

                      primary
                      orapwd file=%oracle_home%/database/PWDedu.ora ignorecase=y

                      standby
                      copied PWDedu.ora to standby and renamed as PWDedu_stby.ora

                          Are you using same setup as primary(user,directory structures...) on standby .See any privilege issue is there,
                          by the way standby is up?

                          What does this trace file say d:\oracle11gee\diag\rdbms\edu\education\trace\education_arc2_924.trc

                              Can you copy the file again and bounce the standby database
                              you can also check Your standby instance name case is same as the the instance name in the passwordfile name
                              Please post the standby server lsnrctl status output and primary and standby pfile contents

                                Is this RAC envionment or Standalone?

                                Compare both the password files using cksum utility.

                                And also defer and enable log_archive_dest_2

                                Alter system set log_Archive_dest_state_2=defer;

                                Alter system set log_Archive_dest_state_2=enable;

                                And then do a log switch in Primary to check whether shipping is happening.
