Hi Guys

I had to reinstall my laptop this weekend. Before i did i took an entire image of the drive. I have just reinstalled Oracle 11g express. I want to get back all my old college databases and views.
Can i now just copy back the entire oraclexe folder. The only difference between installs is the old one was 64bit and the new one is 32bit windows 7. Oracle is in the same location using the same laptop name and passwords.

Thanks

Too bad you didn't read the docs.

The best way to recover old schemas/tables would have been to perform an export or to have taken an RMAN backup.

    ah right.
no problem. With my backup software i can make a new backup image, reinstall the old image, take my Oracle backup and put the newest image back on.
I didnt have time to read the docs. My time was up with windows. I installed the wrong version of the software.
I can install the old image on a spare usb drive and boot from that.. I;ll do a practice run on this current verison.

    thanks for the quick reply.

Pl post exact OS versions that you are referring to, and whether they are 32-bit or 64-bit.

Certified OS versions for 11gXE are listed in the Install Guide - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/install.112/e18803/toc.htm#BABGGAJA

The steps to export and import are also documented - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17781_01/server.112/e18804/impexp.htm#CFHJAHAA
