        What budachst said....

        service multpathd start

        or

        service multpathd status

to make the service start automatically do a

        chkconfig multipathd on

Also, do a cat or more on

        /etc/blacklisted.wwids

This should show the wwids that are blacklisted.

There seems to be much confusion about which HDD's are which and how they're to be used so let's clarify:
          * /dev/sda is used for the Oracle VM Server installation:
          # blkid
          /dev/sda1: LABEL="/boot" UUID="89bbdaaa-1177-4ec7-8c99-8b698c068f8f" TYPE="ext3"
          /dev/sda2: LABEL="/" UUID="7ff3ecea-0b01-4986-a914-9f0741023e82" TYPE="ext3"
          /dev/sda3: LABEL="SWAP-sda31" UUID="18d8494e-ce62-4b60-88b1-ea8bc3616bd9" TYPE="swap"
          * /dev/sdb is empty and should be made available to Oracle VM Manager as a local repository
          * /dev/sdc is used for something else:
          /dev/sdc1: LABEL="ORACLE_SSM" UUID="6275-6275" TYPE="vfat"
...but, for some reason, Oracle VM Manager isn't presenting the second HDD (i.e., /dev/sdb) for use as a local repository.

          Right?

            Yes, this is correct:
/dev/sda is used for the Oracle VM Server installation:
/dev/sdb is empty and should be made available to Oracle VM Manager as a local repository
/dev/sdc is used for something els

            # service multpathd status
            multpathd: unrecognized service
            # service multpathd start
            multpathd: unrecognized service
            # chkconfig multipathd on
            # service multpathd start
            multpathd: unrecognized service
            # cat /etc/blacklisted.wwids
            wwid "3600605b0057ed740188c4f8c0b942af4"
            #

It looks like multipath is installed and somewhat working (according to a few commands I found on the Internet):

              # chkconfig --list | grep multipath
              multipathd 0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
              # multipath -v2 -d
              Feb 19 19:00:02 | /sbin/scsi_id exitted with 1
              Feb 19 19:00:02 | /sbin/scsi_id exitted with 1
              create: 3600605b0057ed740188c4f8d0b9d2129 undef LSI,MR9261-8i
              size=3.8T features='0' hwhandler='0' wp=undef
              `-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=1 status=undef
              `- 0:2:1:0 sdb 8:16 undef ready running
              # multipath -ll
              #

I assume that I am started multipath:

                # service multipathd start
Starting multipathd daemon: [  OK  ]
                # service multipathd status
                multipathd (pid 9017) is running...
                # multipath -ll
                3600605b0057ed740188c4f8d0b9d2129 dm-0 LSI,MR9261-8i
                size=3.8T features='0' hwhandler='0' wp=rw
                `-+- policy='round-robin 0' prio=1 status=active
                `- 0:2:1:0 sdb 8:16 active ready running
                [root@slcaj473 mapper]# multipath -v2
                Feb 19 19:17:54 | /sbin/scsi_id exitted with 1
                Feb 19 19:17:54 | /sbin/scsi_id exitted with 1
                [root@slcaj473 mapper]#

And now I see the disk in Oracle VM Maneger console!!!!!!!!

                Thank you very much!

By the way, why we need multipath for the local disk? From I read so far, it is rather for external storage. In one place I read: "Some machines have local SCSI cards for their internal disks. DM-Multipath is not recommended for these devices."

Oracle VM Manager has strange requirements. e.g., The requirement that the disk be devoted completely to OVM/OVS.
