          Hi,

Because it may occupied by OCR during installation.

Have you did proper deinstall process or just deleted the directory.

If you are in linux environment change ownership to grid user. Then drop and recreate the ASM disk using oracleasm.

          Now start installation.

                Hi,

                Changing ownership to raw disks

                # chown -R grid:asmadmin /dev/sda1
                # chown -R grid:asmadmin /dev/sda2
                .
                .
similarly do for all raw disks.

Have you installed oracleasm rpm's. If not
Download RPM for your kernel version from this link and install

                http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/downloads/rhel5-084877.html

                # /etc/init.d/oracleasm configure -i

                To create:
                # oracleasm createdisk OCR01 /dev/sda1
                # oracleasm createdisk OCR02 /dev/sda2
                # oracleasm createdisk OCR03 /dev/sda3
                # oracleasm createdisk DATA01 /dev/sdb1
                # oracleasm createdisk DATA02 /dev/sdb2
                # oracleasm createdisk DATA03 /dev/sdb3
                # oracleasm createdisk FRA01 /dev/sdc1
                # oracleasm createdisk FRA02 /dev/sdc2
                # oracleasm createdisk FRA03 /dev/sdc3

                To delete(if ASM disks exist):
                # oracleasm deletedisk OCR01 /dev/sda1
                # oracleasm deletedisk OCR02 /dev/sda2
                # oracleasm deletedisk OCR03 /dev/sda3
                # oracleasm deletedisk DATA01 /dev/sdb1

                Then recreate..

                  Hi,

When you re-install, OUI do not detect ASM disks as candidate since they were used preivously. What is the OS you are using?? Version?? Are you using ASMLib??

                  Regards,

                      Bala,

                      Will you please clarify me:

Does Oracle 11gR2 compatible with CentOS 6.3 if NOT then what is the appropriate version of the OS Vs Oracle Db Supports.

CENTOS is completly unsupported by ORACLE. Also, ORACLE wont support VMWARE. I will verify this only if its my produciton system. Although, if you want you can install 11gR2 on CENTOS. It wont give you much trouble as my experince says. But ORACLE wont support any of your queires. Please see metalink id 1304727.1 for complete certificaiton information.

Why OUI cannot detect the previosuly used ASM disks?
Since you are not using ASMLib, you need to rely on OS for your devices to be visible to ASM as candidate disk. When you re-install grid infrastrucuture, the header of the partitions are marked as used. So in OUI, you can see the disk but they are not seen as Candidate disk.

To make them visible again, you need to Overwrite the header for the relevant partitions using the "dd" command.

For eg, on RHEL 6.2 we used below commands. You can check for CENTOS.

                        # dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb1 bs=1024 count=100

Remove and create the ASM disk for each partition.

                        # /etc/init.d/oracleasm deletedisk DATA /dev/sdb1
                        # /etc/init.d/oracleasm createdisk DATA /dev/sdb1

AFAIK, Oracle doesn't support Centos officially.
Unofficially - yes, IF you can recreate the problem.

RH 6 and OLinux 6 are supported.

BTW, ASMlib RPM's is not provided for RH 6 (Centos 6 as weell) anymore, so you will have to use UDEV (which is quite nice).
If you want it, use Oracle Linux 6 instead (it's there).
Another thing, even when you use OLinux 6 and need multipathing (cluster solution), then again you will have to use UDEV.

                          Does it help?
