    DataGuard Configuration

    Meenakshy singh
      Hi All,

      Oracle Version :- 9.2.0.5 on AIX machine

      I have a scenario where I need to enable AUDITING . For doing so I need to change the spfile parameter AUDIT_TRAIL and restart the database.

      My query is :-
      1) I have database managed by DG BROKER(DGMGRL). So when I do change in spfile parameter how is it propagated to dataguard configuration file.
      2) Do I need to DISABLE DG_BROKER before enabling the AUDIT as i am going to restart my database for the AUDIT_TRAIL parameter to come in effect.And enable again the DG BROKER after the DB restarted.

      Thanks
      Meena

          It should.

          You have a larger issue. Audit is a Read Only oracle 9 database ( the standby ). If you audit to the database this will error.

          Can you audit to the OS?

          audit trail parameter should be in OS or NONE when standby database configured.

          Best Regards

            When you are disturbing parameters related to Data Guard then only you have to use Broker, Data Guard broker wont manage whole database activities.
            AUDIT_TRIAL is more of database and not related to Broker configuration. So you can safely go ahead and enable it.

              Hi Msberg ,

              Thanks for your prompt reply as always.

              Yes, I am enabling auditing at OS level only by setting the parameter AUDIT_TRAIL=OS SCOPE=BOTH.
              so, Do I need to DISABLE DG_BROKER before enabling the AUDIT as i am going to restart my database for the AUDIT_TRAIL parameter to come in effect.And enable again the DG BROKER after the DB restarted.

              If so then which command do i need to give
              DGMGRL>disable configuration;
              SQL>alter system set dg_broker_start=false scope=both;

              OR

              DGMGRL>disable configuration;
              DGMGRL>enable configuration; will do the work.

              Thanks
              Meena.

                Hi CKPT,

                So i don't need to disturb the broker. Let it be running while I bring down my database and change parameter and bring it back up again.

                Thanks

                  Thanks. I think you are good then.
