    Oracle 11g R2

    arzamm
      Hello.

      I have Oracle 11g Standar Ed. One (11.1.0.6.0 ) RELEASE 1 @ 32 bits

and i use dblinks to get data from Oracle 8.0.6

      CREATE DATABASE LINK LNSIACOM
      CONNECT TO SIACOM
      IDENTIFIED BY <PWD>
      USING '(description=(address=(protocol=tcp)(host=SERVIDOR1)
      (Port = 1521) ) (connect_data= (sid=ORCL)))';

where SERVIDOR1 holds and ORACLE 8.0.6 (SIACOM)

      and works fine!

      Questions:

Does the last Oracle 11g StdEdOne RELEASE 2 at 64 bits .... can use the same links to get data from an Oracle 8.0.6 (32 bits) ??

      Thanks in advance....

there is no issue with a 32-bit client vs a 64-bit db, and vice versa. And remember, when you access databaseB via a dblink in databaseA, the databaseA is acting as a client to databaseB, exactly was would sqlpus.

Having said that, there certainly would/could be an issue with 8.0 talking to 11.anything, regardless of the 32 vs 64 bit question. If it works, it is pure dumb luck, and all I can say is it will continue to work until such time as it doesn't.

                      Thanks Ed Stevens!!!

I think i was not clear:

My dblink in version 11g R1, actually "can talk" to 8.0.6.

My question is if the 11g R2 version @ 64 bits can talk too to 8.0.6

                      Thanks again...

A database link between 11.1 and 8.0.6 shouldn't work. According to Metalink 207303.1 Oracle Client / Server Interoperability Support document you were referred to earlier, an ORA-03134 error should be raised. If it appears to work, it should not be relied on-- Oracle expects that you may get errors if you try to use an unsupported configuration.

A database link between 11.2 and 8.0.6 is in exactly the same support situation as the 11.1 to 8.0.6 database link. It should raise an ORA-03134 error and should not be relied on if you happen not to get an error on connection.
