    Hardware Suggestion For OBIA implementation

    Naeem Akhtar Khan
      Hello All,

We are going to implement OBIA analytics for Oracle Financials R12.1.3 and Procure and spend Analytic.

Source Database will be E-Business Suite R12.1.3 where Oracle Financials and Procurement Modules are already implemented.

We will be going with latest Product releases i.e

      OBIEE 11.1.1.6.8 (so far)
      OBIA 7.9.6.4
      Informatica 9.1 HF2
      DAC 11g.

Number of users for EBS will be around 500 and number of Users for OBIA will be around 100.

I need suggestions about hardware. What will be the recommended hardware with above products.

It will be more good if you suggest recommended OS for specific products as well.

      Following are my own suggestion.

There will be total 4 servers.

      1. OBIEE with 16 GB of Ram and 2x3 GHz Processor, 400GB Hardisk
      2. Informatica/DAC server with 12 GB of Ram and 2x3 GHz Processor, 400GB Hardisk
      3. Informatica/DAC servewith 8 GB of Ram and 2x3 GHz Processor, 200 GB Hardisk
      4. Dataware House with 8 GB of Ram and 2x3 GHz Processor, 5 TB Hardisk

My suggestion could be beyond or less on limits. as I just make this as a guess.

Further is there any method to calculate the hardware sizing?

      Thanks
      Naeem Akhtar

          Hi Naeem,

For me, the only way to sizing OBIA with your requirements is to do a sizing review with Oracle. They analyze your requirement, preconize architecture and do an estimation of the size of your database.
Oracle provide minimum requirement for hardware with the installation of OBIA but it is only pre-requisite (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35287_01/bia.7964/e22970.pdf).

With your suggestions, I have some questions :
          - Why there are 2 Informatica / DAC server ?
          - For me, your Database configuration is under-estimate compared your OBIEE server.

          The minimum prerequisite is :
          - Oracle Business Analytics Warehouse :
CPU:2 GHz or better, 8 CPU cores minimum - RAM:8 GB
          - ETL Server (Oracle Business Intelligence DataWarehouse Administration Console Server and Informatica PowerCenter Services) :
CPU:2 GHz or better, 4 CPU cores minimum - RAM:8 GB - Storage Space:100 GB free space

          Regards,

          Benoit

            Thanks Benoit for your message.

There are 2 server for Informatica/ DAC because.

            1. server will be to run Informatica/ DAC server
            2. server will be to run Informatica/ DAC client.

Do I need to raise as SR for the desired solution by Oracle?

Further benoit about under estimate config.

Please do suggest if I am giving more/less hardware to OBIEE/Database.

            I need some optimized hardware.

            Thanks

No need to raise the SR for the HW requirement
Oracle already given the pre-requisite document
              (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35287_01/nav/portal_1.htm
              http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E35287_01/bia.7964/e22970.pdf).

For Informatica/ DAC client you dont need a server it can be installed on any client machine.

For OBIEE and Informatica/ DAC server you can use Solaris

                  Dear Abhishek,

                  Thanks for your message.

Oracle has given pre-req aka minimum requirements for the installation of said products.

I am searching for optimized hardware as per my explained case.

There cannot be same hardware in different scenarios.

                  i.e.

One Company is going to implement OBIA (with all other components) and 3 Soruce Oracle EBS Modules (Financials, SCM, HRMS) and number of user for that company is 50,000.

Another one is going to implement only one (Oracle financials) with 100 users.

We cannot use same hardware for both cases.

Correct me if I am wrong.

                  Thanks

                    Hi,

As Abhishek-Anand says, there is no need to have a server for Informatica / DAC client - Client tools can be installed on laptop.
I think that OBIEE configuration OBIEE is very good (16 Go, 6 CPU) but your database doesn't respect the requirement (Minimum recommended: 8 CPU cores minimum - RAM:8 GB -- Your configuration : 6 CPU cores, RAM:8Gb).
You could add more CPU and RAM on your configuration (ex: 8 CPU - 16 Go RAM).

For a sizing review on your OBIA environment, you must contact an Oracle sales.

                    Best regards,

                    Benoit

                      Thanks Benoit for your message.

Does Oracle Sales provide hardware sizing in free :)

                        No :)
4 to 5 days of work for Oracle.

Oracle is taking money for support only, other things are free :)

yes as Benoit says you should add more CPU and RAM on the datawarehouse server.

One Company is going to implement OBIA (with all other components) and 3 Soruce Oracle EBS Modules (Financials, SCM, HRMS) and number of user for that company is 50,000.

The Load of users will come come to datawarehouse only.

                          Thanks
