I assume you're running the upgrade as "root"? Just curious since you mentioned the AD/LDAP oracle account.

We are running the upgrade as root, although the oracle account is not a local user account, its an AD account. Likewise is being used for the AD piece.
We reckon that the issue is related to the oracle account not being a local account, but it might be a different environmental issue.
The oracle vm manager host was installed and secured following the customers standards. We are trying to determine if its an environmental issue causing the "status Oracle VM Manager is not running" status even when ovmm is indeed running.
Ok, we got it. It was the java path. The ovm host had multiple versions of java installed.
We had to hack the JAVAPATH in the /etc/init.d/ovmm script :-)
I would have thought the check routine would be more selective.
