    DBUA 10.2.0.5 to 11.2.0.3 ORA-00119

    cjenkins
I am upgrading an EBS database from 10.2.0.5 to 11.2.0.3 on RHEL 5.8

Before running dbua from the 11g ORACLE_HOME I shutdown the 10g listener.

I now have the error in dbua 'ORA-00119: invalid specification for system parameter LOCAL_LISTENER, ORA-00132: syntax error or unresolved network name EBSUPG'

(EBSUPG is the database being upgraded).

Have I misunderstood the notes, should I have shut the 10g listener down first ?

The notes only talk about creating an 11g listener first if upgrading from 9i.

      Regards,

      Colin

I should have said, I unchecked configuring an enterprise manager which I think would have brought up a listener.

Pl identify the MOS Doc you are following -

Interoperability Notes EBS 12.0 and 12.1 with Database 11gR2 [ID 1058763.1]
Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS 11i with Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0) [ID 881505.1]

Pl post the output of command "env | sort" just before DBUA was invoked. You do not need any listeners for the upgrade.

              Thanks Srini,

              I am following 881505.1.

I have also looked at 870814.1 - Complete Checklist to Upgrade the Database to 11gR2 using DBUA

"env | grep sort" does not return anything.

I unchecked 'Configure the Database with Enterprise Manager' is this OK ?

If I left it checked it said "Configuring the database with Enterprise Manager requires at least one listener to be running. Currently there are no listeners running. Do you want DBUA to start a listener and continue with the database upgrade and configuration"

When I saw thus I decided to go back and uncheck it as I have not used EM in the past.

              Regards,

Yes, you can leave that option unchecked.

You need to set the ORACLE_HOME variable to the 11gR2 HOME before invoking DBUA - pl ensure that /etc/oratab entry is present for the 10gR2 database and that the ORACLE_HOME is pointing to 10gR2

Pl see my blog http://chavalis.blogspot.com/2012/10/upgrading-r12-11-vision-database.html for a similar upgrade (Vision database from 11.1.0.7 to 11.2.0.3)

Thanks Srini, the blog is very useful.

I have now resolved my issues.

The database being upgraded had the parameter local_listener set in the init.ora.

I have removed this and the upgrade is now running.
