I should have said, I unchecked configuring an enterprise manager which I think would have brought up a listener.
Pl identify the MOS Doc you are following -
Interoperability Notes EBS 12.0 and 12.1 with Database 11gR2 [ID 1058763.1]
Interoperability Notes Oracle EBS 11i with Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0) [ID 881505.1]
Pl post the output of command "env | sort" just before DBUA was invoked. You do not need any listeners for the upgrade.
I am following 881505.1.
I have also looked at 870814.1 - Complete Checklist to Upgrade the Database to 11gR2 using DBUA
"env | grep sort" does not return anything.
I unchecked 'Configure the Database with Enterprise Manager' is this OK ?
If I left it checked it said "Configuring the database with Enterprise Manager requires at least one listener to be running. Currently there are no listeners running. Do you want DBUA to start a listener and continue with the database upgrade and configuration"
When I saw thus I decided to go back and uncheck it as I have not used EM in the past.
Yes, you can leave that option unchecked.
You need to set the ORACLE_HOME variable to the 11gR2 HOME before invoking DBUA - pl ensure that /etc/oratab entry is present for the 10gR2 database and that the ORACLE_HOME is pointing to 10gR2
Pl see my blog http://chavalis.blogspot.com/2012/10/upgrading-r12-11-vision-database.html for a similar upgrade (Vision database from 126.96.36.199 to 188.8.131.52)
Thanks Srini, the blog is very useful.
I have now resolved my issues.
The database being upgraded had the parameter local_listener set in the init.ora.
I have removed this and the upgrade is now running.
