i work on a Solaris SPARC and i use the pool mechanism.
Since now i do regulary back ups with snapshot pool mechanism.
I want to know if there exist a method to have a complete image of my system, i mean a cohmprensive image from witch i can restore my system.
I have heard a bit about flarcreate but i'm not sure if it can work for me, because i want an image i can take on a external HD and restore from that the entire system.
Do you know any other tool/method to create an image of my SOLARIS system completelly restorable?
thank you very much,
A few questions first:
What do you mean by pool mechanism?
Are you talking about array pool level (hardware snapshots)?
I think you might be saying that you prefer a physical backup to a logical backup.
If so, and you are using ZFS storage pools, you might consider zpool split.
I use mirro between hd1 and hd2...
yes i meant zfs pool....i want to have a logical backup other than the snapshot mecanism...and something that i can restore in a simple way, maybe from another disk..
Sounds like you have one mirrored ZFS pool of 2 disks, probably the root pool.
Then, yes, creating a Flash archive of your root pool that you could store on an
external disk would be a good backup along with more frequent snapshots.
Thanks Cindy, but if i create a root pool image with flarcreate, do i back up also others directories, likes /app, all my software and biaries, all my installed software, network configurations, users?
