Hello Oracle Gurus

OS Platform:- RHEL5.5 64bit
Database Version:- 11.2.0.2
CLUSTER:-2-Node RAC Database
DATA SYNC: RAC to RAC Dataguard

Site-1 Configuration
2-Node RAC Database
All the applications of Site-1 is communicate with the Database through the Site-1 Oracle RAC default local site public network1/vlan

Site-2 Configuration
2-Node RAC Database
All the applications of Site-2 is communicate with the Database through the Site-2 Oracle RAC default local site public network1/vlan

We don't want to do Communication of Data Guard Sync via public network1/vlan
so here There is no network communication through the Site-1 default local site public network1/vlan and Site-2 default local site public network1/vlan

Site-1 and Site-2 Database Servers is accessible via separate public network2/vlan
So We want to do Communication of Data Guard Sync via separate public network2/vlan
We have available the separate vlan for this configuration

We have refer the RAC FAQ.
Can I have multiple public networks accessing my Oracle RAC?
Yes, you can have multiple networks however with Oracle RAC 10g and Oracle RAC 11g, the cluster can only manage a single public network with a VIP and the database can only load balance across a single network. FAN will only work on the public network with the Oracle VIPs.
Oracle RAC 11g Release 2 supports multiple public networks. You must set the new init.ora parameter LISTENER_NETWORKS so users are load balanced across their network. Services are tied to networks so users connecting with network 1 will use a different service than network 2. Each network will have its own VIP.

Please provide your expert valuable suggestions and comments

Can we add second listener in different public network which is in diff vlan then existing default public network in site-1 Oracle RAC?
Can we add second listener in different public network which is in diff vlan then existing default public network in site-2 Oracle RAC?

Thanks in Advance
Awaiting for your response :)

    Hi,

Add a second listener to the RAC configuration listening on the new network.
First make the new network operation

    See [Playing with Clusterware|http://joordsblog.vandenoord.eu/2011/07/rightavailabilityinracenvironment.html]

You first create a new network, and then you create the listeners. These listeners are not working by the scan.
I think it is not needed for the standby synchronisation and thereby you can control it where the recovery process is running

    Cheers,

Thanks for your suggestions Jos van den Oord :)

We are referring Meta Link [ID 1063571.1]
How to Configure A Second Listener on a Separate Network in 11.2 Grid Infrastructure

We are doing test the above scenario on local environment

Can you explain us the advantages and disadvantages of having this types of configuration?

    Awaiting for your response

Disadvantages: a new component in the GRID infrastructure to manage. It is not reachable by the SCAN listener. this one is listening on the public interface. The DB should know that the seccond network is part of the total configuration. Meaning a addition monitoring component if the secand network is operational

Advantages: a seperate network with no ineractions with other components using that network. Ideal for backup, dataguard, ect.

    Summary:
Addition monitoring an documentation is needed for maintenance aspect. The Organisation should have knowledge of the component.
