Unable to connect with Beehive conference (OWC)

Hello,

One customer has asked for assistance with OWC using https://stbeehive.oracle.com site. When customer tries to connect they're getting the following message:

Unable to launch the application.

Name : Oracle Beehive Conferencing
Publisher : Oracle
from : https://stbeehive.oracle.com:443

Checking the Java log shows this error:

java.io.IOException: Unable to tunnel through proxy. Proxy returns "HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required ( The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web Proxy filter is denied.  )"

There is a note which mentions the issue with the proxy and how to resolve it (note no. 1540127.1) however the Java error message in the note is different then the one customer is getting, thus here is my question:

Does the fix in the note 1540127.1 apply also to this error message or is this something else?

I should mention that I asked customer to check this note and to follow the fix suggested there. Customer says that they have done this, however when they try to connect to OWC they get this very same error message again. I asked customer to check also the note no. 1370759.1 to be sure that they have other required ports enabled as well, also asked to confirm that the port mentioned in note 1540127.1 is indeed open.

Customer is still providing information to be on their Windows version, whether it's 64-bit or no, their Java version, browser name and version so I do not have yet this information to add to here. I was wondering if someone perhaps knows about this error message specifically, or has encountered it.

Best regards,
Algis Väinola.

    Hi,

Given the reported symptoms the customer is experiencing I can only think that they have still not either disabled the authentication ont he proxy or allowed access through port 5224 as the reported error is pretty clear and evident.

Which client is the customer using - the Beehive Client downloadable from the https://beehiveonline.oracle.com/bcentral/downloads page or the dynamically downloadable JavaFX client?

The error is essentially saying I cannot connect to the server via 443 or- because it is password protected and my fallback connection via 5224 is also blocked on the firewall.

Try telnet to port 5224 and see if you get this behaviour:

    -bash-3.2$ telnet beehiveonline.oracle.com 5224
    Trying 156.151.25.7...
    Connected to beehiveonline.oracle.com (156.151.25.7).
    Escape character is '^]'.

This means you are through to the port - nothing happens and you should ^] and quit but it will check you are accessing the server and not being bounced by the firewall.

    Hello,

Customer is using the JavaFX client for now, I mentioned that they can download and install Beehive client as well to see if this makes any difference. I will ask customer to go over the ports again to ensure that all of the ports mentioned in these documents are open for OWC and then we'll test again, I'll update this thread with the results.

    Best regards,

    Hello,

Customer informs that on a PC where they have Java 7 installed they can finally connect to OWC. However, on PC's which have Java 6 v. 25 installed they cannot connect to OWC. At the same time they cannot upgrade Java on those machines either because they specifically need that Java version for their E-Business applications. Is there anything what can be checked or done for those older Java versions? Or should the customer try to go with Beehive client instead? Shouldn't Beehive use the same portals for both Java versions? I mentioned the Beehive client to them but they have not yet installed it, it seems, so this hasn't been tested yet.

EDIT: I am adding here the Java log file what customer sent, from one of those 6.25 Java machines:

    Hi,

Looking at the log we still have the proxy issue at the heart of the error:

Java.io.IOException: Unable to tunnel through proxy. Proxy returns "HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required ( The ISA Server requires authorization to fulfill the request. Access to the Web Proxy filter is denied. )"

If this is not fixed I syuspect we will not be able to get either client to connect as both will require to be given access through the firewall. The BeehiveClient may be able to handle the authentication piece - the JavaFX one cannot.

Main issue seems that the customer claims that they have opened the port so it should work. Also, customer has workstations using Java 7 and then some using Java 6 rel. 25. According to customer they can connect to OWC after they opened the ports with Java 7, I've seen them connect to my active OWC session. However, workstations which have Java 6 rel. 25 still cannot connect and are giving this error shown in the log file. How can one Java version connect while another cannot?

EDIT: and yes, indeed customer can connect with Beehive client from both types of workstation, but they are chasing for JavaFX connection as well.

That is odd - I had Java 6 on my system for a while as I was restricted by an app I had to use and I did not experience any issues with Java 6 and the JavaFX app. I can see cases where the level of Java could cause failures but not like the one in the log you sent - class not found errors would be the most obvious type of error associated with Java version problems.

I have Java 6 installed myself and did the test with it too and had no problems at all. I also use Beehive for a while now in my line of work as well (other customer OWC's, our own internal meetings and presentations, etc) with older version then I have now and never had a problem in any mode, so it is strange in that sense. I've opened also a ticket in MyHelp asking for their assistance as well, I'll update this thread if I'll find out something new.
