You didn't way "where" it changes. Do you mean the rendered Web page is showing the changes? If so, it may be an encoding issue. Is the page encoding set to utf-8 so the browser knows how to interpret these characters?
No. Not on the jsp. It is after the "Submit" to the java side, i.e., via request.getParameter("award"); the value changes for ® and ™. As the result, the value on the java side becomes : AVÂ® Preeminentâ¢.
String awardOnJavaSide = request.getParameter("award");
//Debug the awardOnJavaSide variable, it showed: AVÂ® Preeminentâ¢
Looks like the charset you used when you created the JSP is different than the charset you used to display its results on the browser.
