Dear Friends,

Please some one assist me to configure the Wifi on my system. I am running Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.1 on Dell Lattitude E6330. Below is the required detail.

[root@localhost opt]# lspci | grep -i network
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 04)
02:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6205 (rev 34)

I am surprised, no wireless card is detected by the system. I checked in the BOIS settings and i found it is to be active. Please let me know if you need any other information.

Many Thanks,
Darshan

It's not necessarily surprising because Oracle Linux, like any other RHEL based derivatives, are build to support enterprise server grade hardware. However, chances to find a suitable driver for Intel based network cards are usually good. I recommend to install the latest version of Oracle Linux 6.4 (x64), which may have added support for your hardware, or switch to the original RHEL driver from the GRUB boot menu.

You could try to find a RHEL compatible driver, or build a driver for your kernel:

It is generally the best advice in my opinion to run any OS on unsupported hardware under VirtualBox https://www.virtualbox.org/ or another Type 2 virtualization product. There are usually other components beside wireless support in a desktop or laptop system that require special drivers, such as audio, trackpad, power management and last not least advanced video support. Ignoring these issues may cause overheating, battery drain, and usually affect the reliability and can weaken electronic components of your system.
