I've downloaded the latest release of the Oracle SQL Developer 64-bit and would like to use that instead of 32-bit which includes the JRE. I'm using Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit.
I followed the instructions closely and downloaded the JRE from the link specified in your documentation.
The file I downloaded is second from the bottom:
Windows x64 31.59 MB jre-7u21-windows-x64.exe
It successfully installed into the default folder:
When I double click datamodeler64.exe I'm given a window asking me to enter the full pathname for java.exe. I've tried the following:
1. Pasting C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\ into the textbox and selecting OK.
2. Pasting other variations of it like C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\ into the textbox and selecting OK.
3. Selecting Browse and navigating to the Java.exe file and selecting it.
4. Attempting to specify other Java.exe files on my machine in other folders such as C:\Windows\system32 and SysWow64.
All of these attempts returns the message "Cannot find a J2SE SDK installed at path: " followed by each path.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks. I was just returning to say that I had found the answer on Jeff Smith's blog.
I could have sworn the directions told me to download the JRE, not the JDK. Ugh.
