    OVM_EM12c EM template

    Mike Crow-Oracle
So, I've downloaded and deployed the EM 12 c VM template, what do I do next?
As far as I can tell EM isn't running, the readme doc's doesn't say anything after answering the initial boot questions setting up network and stuff, but nothing after that.

There are a lot of scripts, but no real explanation I can find.

          Hi,

Could you please send over the clone logs under /var/log/*emgc*? That log would have the output of the clone process and would list any errors hit during that process.

          Regards,
          Rajesh.

I'll look back at the downloaded zip's and make sure I combined them into the template correctly. Any idea how many files are in the tar's? There were 2 img's and a cfg(unless I lost one).

                Hi user13461109 and Mike,

Can you send me the logs on my email id - akanksha.sheoran@oracle.com
You should see 3 zip file and for linux x86_64 the approx 8.7 G
I also hope you are downloaded the VM templates from here : https://edelivery.oracle.com/oraclevm
Select "Oracle VM Templates" from the "Select a Product Pack" pull-down menu, then pick the Oracle VM Template for Enterprise Manager Cloud Control 12c Media . See the last column for the number of zip and GB

When you extract the zips in a folder , how many subfolders do you get ?

The installation/deployment of EM failed in your env due to the error below:

ERROR: This is an invalid email address. The email address must contain one "@" symbol and at least one dot("."). If you have a My Oracle Support account, specify the email address you use to log in to My Oracle Support, for example, johndoe@mycompany.com

It looks like the data entered for the configuration manager was incorrect. Please deploy the VM template again this time ensuring that the data entered for the configuration manager is correct. Or alternatively, you could opt no at the prompt where you're asked if you want to configure the configuration manager - this will not impact the deployment of your EM.

That template is broke, i.e. the timeout value for the "Enter the passwords and email address for Oracle Enterprise Manager" entry is the culprate:
Enter the passwords and email address for Oracle Enterprise Manager
The passwords and email address for Oracle Enterprise Manager are mandatory. Unfortunately, there is a VERY short timeout value before the installer moves forward with a NULL entry, i.e. if your not paying attention, the installer times out and defaults to "null", and the setup will continue without installing the middleware home. If the passwords and email address are not entered the setup completes without installing the Middleware home. When this happens, kill the virtual machine, delete it, and start over.

(I opened a SR a while ago about the timeout, no response. )

                      Regards,

There is actually no timeout for the input, i.e., the input should keep waiting until the data is entered. I've had a guest running, or rather waiting for almost 1.5 days without proceeding since the guest creation process was waiting for data to be entered here. So, no sure why in your case it proceeded. Could I get the /var/log/*emgc*.log for your failed guest (if you still have it)?

I had to gave up on that template after trying it, and being let down by it, at many different client sites, and during many trainings, and after numerous unresolved SRs. I really gave it a whirl. Ironically the R1 template worked, although it was not production ready, i.e. the OEM & DB setup was odd the say the least. Many of the templates are good, not this one :-)
