Windows 8 is not a certified OS for installing Oracle databases currently. You have 3 choices
1. Wait till Oracle certifies Win 8 - http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/database/windows/tech-info/sod-oracle-db-win8-win2012-1853201.pdf
2. Downgrade your OS to a supported version - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24186/reqs.htm#CHDHGGFE
3. Install VM software on your machine, create a VM, install a certified OS in the VM, then install 11gR2 in the VM - pl see my blog (linked in my profile) for detailed steps
Thanks for the reply, Just for your information last week I bought the Microsoft Surface - with windows 8 pro and I was able to installed Oracle 11g R2 64 bit on it. Unfortunately I did not like Surface Tab and returned the same to replace with Acer Laptop. My question, if i was able to install the same Oracle 11g under windows 8 on the Tab then why I am not able to install the same oracle on my Laptop. Can you please let me know how to check the log file and where I can locate it, or any other way to check what is the actual issue.
Thanks once again your help and looking forward your expert feedback.
Since Win 8 is not certified, the install process may or may not succeed. If it does succeed, the software may or may not work as advertised. You will have to troubleshoot any issues during the install or after on your own.
Troubleshooting steps are documented - http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24186/ts.htm
