Also, can the bank (well, banks actually) program the applet in such a way that users won't get this popup?Its not anything to do with the applet or code - its a security popup managed from the browser/plugin. Browsers nowadays even tend to force disable Java plugins that are out of date, so its quite important that clients upgrade.
