i am trying to expand my .var filesystem. I have expanded the metadevice but the growfs command keeps detecting a deadlock and does not expand the fs.
Would appreciate any thoughts on why this is occuring.
growfs -M /var /dev/md/rdsk/d3
/var: Deadlock situation detected/avoided
df -h /var
Filesystem size used avail capacity Mounted on
/dev/md/dsk/d3 7.7G 5.5G 2.1G 73% /var
metastat -c d3
d3 m 16GB d13 d23
d13 s 16GB c3t1d0s0
d23 s 16GB c3t2d0s0
re-reading the growfs man page with a fresh mind I discovered that while growfs cannot be used on root, the other restriction that tripped me up here was that accounting was running on this server and it was writing to the /var filesystem. I stopped process accounting and extended accounting and repeated the growfs and it worked! restarted both accounting processes and all is well with the server.
Thanks to both folks who responded to my post. your thoughts were the jog my brain needed!
