    R4 EA - Connecting to Oracle 11.1

    JerryLoethen

What are the correct JDBC drivers to connect to Oracle 11.1 from SQL Developer 4.0?  I can connect to a local Oracle Express DB and a remote Oracle 11.2 DB but when connecting to an 11.1 DB I get:

An error was encountered performing the requested operation:

IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection

      Vendor code 17002

I've tried the JDBC 11.2 and 11.1 drivers with no luck.  I can connect to the same DB from SQL Developer 3.1 with no issues.

      Windows 7 Pro 64bit

      Java 1.7.0_25 64bit

      SQL Developer 4.0.0

      thanks,

      jerry

          Hi Jerry,

What are the SQLDeveloper connection details(start with OCI preference off) hostname, port, service or sid.

what is the sqlplus connect string from the same machine? hostname, port, service or sid (does it match (as well as usernname/pasword) the SQLDeveloper one?) (Trying to rule out firewall issues)

what is the output from lsnrctl stat? (i.e. is the listener listening for that database service)

If using OCI preference on, the Oracle client has to be just the right version (currently 11.2.0.3)

Thought I has posted this a few days ago.  Sorry.

I had Use OCI/Thick driver unchecked in both 3.2 and 4.0 and 4.0 would not connect.  I checked the box in 4.0 and now it connects.  I have been using 3.1 for over a year and 3.2 configured at the same time as 4.0.  The information you asked for is below.

            SQLDeveloper Connection Details:

            SQLDeveloper Version 3.2.20.09

            Connection Name: QA3

            UserName: jloethen

            Connection Type: TNS

            Network Alias qadb03

            SQLDeveloper Version 4.0.0.12

            Connection imported from prior version

            Connection Name: QA3

            UserName: jloethen

            Connection Type: TNS

            Network Alias qadb03

Confirmed in Advanced properties that both SQLDeveloper version point to the same tnsnames file.:

              Hi Jerry,

I checked the box in 4.0 and now it connects.

Success! I really should have a what works on thin and what needs OCI list.
