    INS-30508 - Invalid ASM Disk Error at Installation

    user7674826

      Hi guys, I'm new here, so I will try to explain what happened at my environment

      I'm installing  the Oracle 11gR2 at Oracle Enterprise Linux 6.4

      When I was trying to configure the Grid Infrastructure to install ASM in a Stand Alone Server Installation I have this error:

      INS-30508 - Invali ASM Disks

      Before the installation I had to set up the permissions on the disks as follows:

      [root@lion dev]# chown oracle.oinstall /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3 /dev/sda5 /dev/sda7

      [root@lion dev]# chmod 775 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3 /dev/sda5 /dev/sda7

      When I list

      [root@lion dev]# ls -ltr sda*

      brw-rw----. 1 root   disk     8, 0 Aug 19 19:31 sda

      brw-rw----. 1 root   disk     8, 4 Aug 19 19:31 sda4

      brwxrwxr-x. 1 oracle oinstall 8, 7 Aug 19 19:31 sda7

      brwxrwxr-x. 1 oracle oinstall 8, 2 Aug 19 19:31 sda2

      brw-rw----. 1 root   disk     8, 8 Aug 19 19:31 sda8

      brwxrwxr-x. 1 oracle oinstall 8, 5 Aug 19 19:31 sda5

      brwxrwxr-x. 1 oracle oinstall 8, 3 Aug 19 19:31 sda3

      brw-rw----. 1 root   disk     8, 6 Aug 19 19:31 sda6

      brw-rw----. 1 root   disk     8, 1 Aug 19 19:31 sda

      I had put in the /etc/rc.d/rc.local file the commands

      chown oracle.oinstall /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3 /dev/sda5 /dev/sda7

      chmod 775 /dev/sda2 /dev/sda3 /dev/sda5 /dev/sda7

      As I did in Oracle Enterprise Linux 5.5

      but when I run the Grid Infrastructure, when the GUI is trying to read the disks volumes the permission come back to root again, and I stay unvailable to mount the Disk Group

      In some blog I found a similar problem but in Red Hat Linux 6

      I have try this also

      On path /etc/udev/rules.d

      I did create this file

      [root@lion rules.d]# cat 50-udev.rules

      SUBSYSTEM=="block",ENV{DEVTYPE}=="disk", KERNEL=="sda2", GROUP="oinstall", OWNER="oracle", MODE="0660"

      SUBSYSTEM=="block",ENV{DEVTYPE}=="disk", KERNEL=="sda3", GROUP="oinstall", OWNER="oracle", MODE="0660"

      SUBSYSTEM=="block",ENV{DEVTYPE}=="disk", KERNEL=="sda5", GROUP="oinstall", OWNER="oracle", MODE="0660"

      SUBSYSTEM=="block",ENV{DEVTYPE}=="disk", KERNEL=="sda7", GROUP="oinstall", OWNER="oracle", MODE="0660"

      submit the command start_dev

      But not happens on my permissions? Am I in the correct path? Or what I can try to recover the permissions on the volume disks that I Itend to give to Disk Group?

      Any thoughts?

          Try configuring you disks using ASMlib, its quite easy, simple and managed by itself.

          In short,

          i) Add the disks and make it available to the OS. Format the disk using single partition

          ii) Install ASMlib driver packages.

          iii) Configure it to oracle user and  Initiate the asmlib

          iv) Mark the disks as asm disks using oracleasm utility

          v) List the device using oracleasm to make sure ur disks are marked by asmlib

          vi) Start the installation and go easy and simple..

          Regards,
