EM 12c doesn't discover OAS targets

    Nock

      Hi everyone,

I've added 2 agents in my recently configured EM12c. Both of them have an Oracle Application Server with the same applications running in it (they are just a mirror for some operations). For some reason EM only recognize the OAS in one of the agents but totally ignores the targets in the other one, and they are just the same thing!! The only thing it discovers is the agent (that was installed and deployed correctly) and the oracle home inside of it, but no sign of the rest of the applications running.

I've tried all the manually add targets options inside the console and also tried with the instructions in this link How to Troubleshoot OEM 12c Cloud Control Auto-Discovery. However I'm running out of ideas, if you have any guidance it will be appreciated.

          Hi Néstor,

Can you provide a bit more detail on what error you ran into when you attempted to manually add the OAS targets on the second host?  Perhaps that will provide some insight into what you may be running into on the auto-discovery side as well.  Also, are the environment completely identical in regards to the host in regards to privileges for the various directories?  It may indeed be worth simply opening up an SR and providing these details along with the agent logs from both the hosts comparing the successful discovery to the failed discovery.

            Hi Glen,

I continued my search to find why my second host wasn't correctly discovered, and first found out that this link How to Troubleshoot OEM 12c Cloud Control Auto-Discovery, only helps me to discover the Oracle home target type that was already discovered, but didn't helped me to get the OAS. Meanwhile, I found this other post https://forums.oracle.com/message/10482535#10482535 where they briefly explained how to add a target with the emcli utility, so I tried it following the documentation http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24628_01/em.121/e17786/cli_verb_ref.htm#autoId7, and found out that actually both hosts aren't homologous in regards to privileges as you are pointing out. I'm waiting for that to be fixed so I can try again and see if the problem is solved and the OAS discovered.

If I can't manage to get it working I'll post the error logs and continue this post, or just finish it if it's solved.

Thank you for your time and response Glen,

Well, after giving the correct permissions to the folder the em pointed ($ORACLE_HOME/opmn) I tried the discovering again and it doesn't work. I'm new with oracle and its environment so I'm not quite sure if I'm looking for the correct logs but here is some output I found interesting from the oas host.

              From the log agent_inst/sysman/log/gcagent.log :

In the em console it only says "No Targets found". If you could guide me to other logs archives I will add the output here.

                Nestor,

I am not sure it is related or not but if I am reading the logs correctly, you have added your hosts using IP addresses rather than host names. It is recommended that you use FQDN for hosts which are resolvable either using DNS or local hosts file. This could possibly cause the discovery to fail. Is the other host using a resolvable hostname or also an IP?

                Regards,

                Dave

Yes Dave, you're correct and that is not the problem in this case since the first host is also recognize through its IP address and everything works just fine. I know that could be an issue if the IP's are change later but I really don't think it will be the case in this net. However I'm gonna change that now, and since I can't find an answer to why this is happening I will try deinstalling and installing the agent again. It's the only idea I have left.

                  Thank you very much,

                    Hi Néstor,

Can you open up a SR for this issue when you get a chance?

                    Thanks,

                    Glen
