    user10890219

      Hi all

I installing RAC 11gr2 in VMWARE 9. Most of the part went smooth except i cannot ping between nodes. It says destination host is unreachable. I tried many different way but in vain, I will appreciate your help and feedback.

          IP ranges are right.

Check if firewall is on and disable it.

Can you ping by IP, if so you have to edit /etc/host to enter name to ip resolution.

It is a Linux issue not Oracle one. Anyway, try disabling firewall by running system-config-security-tui and by using space disable firewall. Your vmware network adapter settings must be same use bridge networking. Restart your network adapters.

Try the above and let me know

                            Hi,

Your etc/hosts configuration seems to be good. But i found something irrelevant in IP address in RAC 1 node.

                            IP address eth0 is 192.168.1.107 --> It should be 101 isn't it?

                            IP address eth1 is 192.168.2.101

Just Make sure what IP addres you going to configure! Configure the IP address in eth0 in RAC node 1, you will be able to ping then.

                            Regards,

                            Pradeep. V

Actually i did not get "Your vmware network adapter settings must be same use bridge networking". I see that in my virtual network editor option in vmware

                              VMnet 0 connection is bridged

VMnet1 is host only , DHCP enable and subnet address is 192.168.26.0

VMnet8 is NAT, DHCP is enabled  and subnet address is 192.168.186.0.

Do i have to change it here? Do i have to put my eth0 and eth 1 public ip in here. Please help.I am sorry for lack of knowledege in networking

Since you have two NICs (eth0 and eth1) for public and private network you have to configure both of them.

                                First eth0

Go to your Rac1 -VM - Settings - Network Adapter (select first) - Custom - Choose Vmnat2. Do the same for Rac2.

                                Second eth1

Go to your Rac1 - Settings - Network Adapter ( select second) - Custom - Choose Vmnat3. Do the same for Rac2.

Restart network service in both RACs.

I have two network adopter one is bridge and one is host only. Can i select either one for eth1/eth0 or i have to select specifically?

Choose first for eth0 and second for eth1. Do not forget to change in both RACs as Custom. Do not leave as bridge or host only. Change as i said in the above message.
