I am in the process of recommending "portal vs non portal" technology approaches and I have a question on cross-platform support for portlets in a single deployment.
I know that .NET portlets are supported in Webcenter and that there are specific requirements to achieve this (IIS and so on). I also know that portlets can obviously be deployed in Java with the JSR standards. My question is whether both of these can be created and deployed in a single web site, and whether they conflict with each other in any way. What are the gotchas for this type of situation? Are people doing this type of deployment today?
The main reason for the question is that many departments want to own their portlet implementations and their expertise varies between Java and MS. I would love to say that the Oracle Webcenter portal can deploy them together and that the client does not have to make a choice between the two.
Thanking you in advance.
Yes, it is possible. Take a look at details at Introducing Oracle WebCenter WSRP Producer for .NET
With portlets you have always two systems:
- one which host the portlet
- and the other that consumes it
Apparently, WebCenter Portal provides both portlet container to host Java portlets and ability to consume portlets (via WSRP). You will need another server that host Microsoft portlets, of course.
