Yes, grouping is the solution to your question. I will illustrate an example tomorrow.
Today I added grouping to my rtf for the sample orders data model, so I know the following method works:
It is likely that your data file does not contain the grouping hierarchies already, so you perform the grouping in rtf using the following method:
4.12.3 Regrouping the XML data.
Tomorrow I will post my rtf code, after I clean out the clutter.

I took 3 screenshots of my xml structure, rtf code, and report output, but these forums do not allow images.
So, here is the info:
(1) My xml structure (data source) has no hierarchies (no groups).
(2) My rtf code groups first by customer, then by order, then displays all line items for each order.
(3) The report output suppresses repeating values of the two groups (customer, order).
