R12.2 install stuck on fails at step 4 at 46%. OEL6.4 x86-64. Issue applying OPatch 10152652

    Matt-Symes

Has anyone experienced the below issue?

I've already read the threads that discuss which staging files are required and which are not required so I believe my stage area is correct. All pre-install checks have passed successfully.

      My VM

      10GB ram

      400GB disk

      OEL 6.4

All OS Pre-Reqs have been completed.

rapidwiz is failing at 46% on step 4 (adrunfmw.sh) - 66% of "Configuring Applications Technology Stack". Relevant section of the log file is below:

            Hi,

It seems to be same error what we got , where it fails while installing web tier. it because of corrupted stage area. if we include oracle forms, reports. discoverer 11g zip files into stage area, it cause corrupted stage area.

Please download only the following components for Rapid Install stage , (if you download the optional components place them in a different area in stage - not Rapid Install stage) :

                      1. Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.0  Rapid Install Start Here

                      2. Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.0  Rapid Install (All Disks and Parts)

                      3. Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.0 for Linux x86-64 Rapid Install Technoloyg one-off Patches

                      4. Oracle WebLogic Server 11gR1 (10.3.6) Generic and Coherence

5.Oracle Fusion Middleware Web Tier Utilities 11g Patch Set 5 (11.1.1.6.0) for Linux x86-64

            Same for other platforms.

            Try this as workaround

            1- cd <Stage Area>/TechInstallMedia/ohs11116

            2- rm -rf *

3- Copy the V29764-01.zip file to <Stage Area>/TechInstallMedia/ohs11116 and unzip it there.

            4. Cleanup the current install completely (including oraInventory, temp also) and re-install again.(if you have any doubts please follow from 27th post in https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2585039?start=15&tstart=0 thread)

              Reply to #1 Hussein:

I did try to find the log in question but could not identify the location. I assume I'm looking for an OPatch log but there was nothing under /home/oracle/VIS/fs2/EBSapps/10.1.2/cfgtoollogs - and not sure where else I would look for the OPatch log.

                Check the following logs:

                <Global Inventory>/logs/OPatch<timestamp>.log

                  Reply to #2 Jitz:

I had read the thread you mentioned prior to starting installation so think my stage area should have been correct. My stage folder is located at /media/sf_Oracle/StageR122. All the "extra" zips from the release media are kept in /media/sf_Oracle/StageR122/Others so weren't unzipped when I ran buildstage.sh.

Anyway - I still planned to follow your workaround steps but when running rm -rf * from ../TechInstall/ohs11116 I got:

rm: cannot remove `Disk1/stage/prereq/linux64/ias_prereq.xml': Operation not permitted

rm: cannot remove `Disk1/stage/prereq/linux64/knowledgesrc.xml': Operation not permitted

rm: cannot remove `Disk1/stage/prereq/linux64/LinuxVendors.xml': Operation not permitted

rm: cannot remove `Disk1/stage/prereq/linux64/prerequisite.properties': Operation not permitted

rm: cannot remove `Disk1/stage/prereq/linux64/refhost_Core.xml': Operation not permitted

rm: cannot remove `Disk1/stage/prereq/linux64/rulemap.xml': Operation not permitted

rm: cannot remove `Disk1/stage/Queries/ccrQueries/10.3.0.0.0/1/ccrQueries.jar': Operation not permitted

rm: cannot remove `Disk1/stage/Queries/globalVarQueries/2.1.0.4.0/1/globalVarQueries.jar': Operation not permitted

rm: cannot remove `Disk1/stage/Queries/RepositoryQueries/3.0.0.2.23/1/Queries.jar': Operation not permitted

Did some googling and tried to to run lsattr on one of the above to see if the attributes were immutable or something else that would prevent removal and then got:

                  [oracle@r122vis ohs11116]$ lsattr Disk1/stage/prereq/linux64/ias_prereq.xml

lsattr: Inappropriate ioctl for device While reading flags on Disk1/stage/prereq/linux64/ias_prereq.xml

It then occured to me that my Stage area is on an NTFS filesystem (on a USB drive attached to my windows laptop running Virtualbox) and which I've mounted on the VM. I wonder whether it is mandatory for the stage file system to be ext4 for linux installs (or at least - not NTFS)???

To avoid wasting any further time I'm going to create a new VDI on virtualbox, format it as EXT4, mount it to the VM and copy all the .zips across and rerun buildstage.sh on the ext4 filesystem. It might turn out this isn't necessary but I'd like to be able to eliminate NTFS as being a cause of the issue.

Thanks for your help on this install,

                  - Matt

$INST_TOP/logs/<MMDDHHMM>.log => Gives me the log file in my original post.

<Global Inventory>/logs/OPatch<timestamp>.log=> There doesn't appear to be anything here containing an error with the relevant timestamp.

There are lots of OPatch files in the /home/oracle/oraInventory/logs/OPatch folder - and there are 3 log files with roughly the correct timestamp - but none of them have anything to indicate an error.

grep 10152652 * doesn't return anything when run from the /home/oracle/oraInventory/logs/OPatch folder either.

                      Thanks for your help,

Thanks for the tip. I had tried removing as root - but thanks anyway.

I reran the install with everything staged on ext4 and the install failed at exact same stage. Since other issues seem to be due to incorrect stage area - could you check the list of files below are the correct ones to be in stage area just before I run buildstage.sh. (Note, at this point i have already unzipped all 3 parts of V35215-01 - and I've deleted those 3 zips as I assume they don't want to be getting unzipped again by buildstage.sh.

I've previously verified that the individual .zips are ok via their MD5 checksums. Does anyone know if there is anything similar to enable me to validate the unzipped files???

In the meantime - I'm going to try and follow your suggested workaround again.

I tried the workaround that Jitz suggested but am still failing at 46% with the same error.

Having previously installed R12.1 vision on a VM with 2GB ram I've taken the minimum memory specs for R12.2 (10GB app tier, 6 GB db tier) with a pinch of salt and assumed that a 10GB memory VM would be plenty to at least get R12.2 installed. But now I'm wondering if I'm hitting free memory issues.

Please let me know if you have any other thoughts regarding this error.

                          - Matt

I reviewed MOS note: 12.2 Rapid-Install fails on Installing Web Tier Utilities with Error "Fatal Error: TXK Install Service" (Doc ID 1587452.1)

This isn't the same error but it does indicate that I should be looking at the log in: <s_base>/fs2/EBSapps/appl/admin/<context_name>/logs/oracle.apps.fnd.txk.install0.log

Viewing that file I found the following in the tail:

ERROR: OPatch failed because of Inventory problem.

Stderr: The Oracle Home /home/oracle/VIS/fs2/EBSapps/10.1.2 is not registered with the Central Inventory.  OPatch was not able to get details of the home from the inventory.

I checked /etc/oraInst.loc and it was owned by root with 644 permissions. I've been running rapidwiz as oracle user.

so I've chowned the file to oracle:oinstall and chmod 664 and will try to rerun rapidinstall now. Fingers crossed.

                              Matt,

Please run md5sum as per (MD5 Checksums for R12.2 Rapid Install Media (Doc ID 1505510.1)) to verify the integrity of the stage directory before starting rapidwiz and after you create the stage directory.

                              Thanks,

                              Hussein

I have just seen this reply (While I was posting the one dated Sep 30, 2013 3:03 PM (in response to MattSymes))

You can run Rapidwiz as oracle user if you are planning to have this user as the owner of the application and database tier node files -- Assuming oracle has full permission on the stage directory files.

Anyway, since you have already started the installation please update the thread with your progress. If you still get the same error, then please run md5sum as per the doc mentioned in my other reply.

                                Thanks,

                                Hussein

                                  Hi matt,

you have right files in your stage area. as my last suggestion on stage area could you please check md5sum of those files and compare with oracle digest.( i do this as a mandatory step). and i have seen legend "HUSSEIN" post as same suggestion, so please check and post here if you found any wrong in md5sum output.
