In my opinion would be a good idea install a minimal server environment in a virtual machine.
You can start from a pre-builded VM from Oracle (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html#soa), but at now version 22.214.171.124 is the only available so you will need to migrate to 126.96.36.199.
Or install one environment from scratch, which also is a good idea since you learn a lot when installing everything.
If you have a core i7 desktop with 8GB of RAM you propably can start and run the VM without problem.
One tip: since you are new doing this kind of install, it is a good idea keep generating some snapshots for each main step you finish, in case you need to rollback.
Thanks! I have startet an installation and used the WebLogic server which was included with the JDeveloper (10.3.5). I then installed the SOA/BPM suite (188.8.131.52) and when I then try and setup the middleware domain, all I see is BPM 184.108.40.206 in the list. Does BPM 220.127.116.11 require WebLogic 10.3.6 or what am I missing? As far as I know, the case management features is part of 18.104.22.168.
EDIT: Just found a note in the documentation saying
The version number of the configuration templates you will see on the screens is "22.214.171.124" even though the version number of your software may be different. The configuration template version numbers are not updated for patch set releases.
You are right, Case Management is part of SOA Suite version 126.96.36.199, and SOA Suite 188.8.131.52 requires Weblogic 10.3.6.
You can check the versions at OTN: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/soasuite/downloads/index.html

Looks like LFHeckler has got you going. Just wanted to mention that even though it appears to be outdated (it says 220.127.116.11) my favorite installation guide is still the Quick Start Guide: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/soasuite/overview/quickstartguidesoasuite11gr1ps4-459545.pdf.
One other thing, if you haven't already done so - search for the following bug numbers and download and apply the patches associated with them: 14642695, 14306399 and 14698557. It's not mentioned in a readme file, but these patches fix some issues you'd otherwise run into with case management.
The JDeveloper 18.104.22.168 from your link seems to be bundled with Weblogic 10.3.5... That does not makes sense to me if BPM 22.214.171.124 requires 10.3.6. I installed JDeveloper 126.96.36.199 and installed the 188.8.131.52 SOA/BPM. So far this has worked fine. I didn't have time to continue with the installation to check if everything worked though.
184.108.40.206 supports both WLS 10.3.6 and 10.3.7.
The compatibility matrix that shows this can be reached by going to Oracle Fusion Middleware Supported System Configurations - > search for "BPM" on the page -> if you're in the 11g section, click on "xls". This will take you to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/downloads/fmw-11gr1certmatrix.xls.
