    emca -repos create causes instance unavailable error

    Allie_Jane

      I'm on a customer site and attempting to create the em repository.

      While running the emca -config dbcontrol db -repos create command I get the following error 'Database Instance Unavailable'. There was permission issues on the sysman user prior to me being onsite so I dropped the repo prior to the attempted create - the -repos drop worked perfectly.

      Can anyone help with this as I'm now stuck with what to try.

      I've put details of my workings below

      When I run the command

          post proof that you can connect to this database using sqlnet by doing similar to below

          sqlplus scott/tiger@tns_alias

          COPY the results from command line then PASTE  all back here

            Hi,

            Maybe you are hitting unpublished bug ? Refer to this note for more information and apply a patch or set this in sqlnet.ora:

            SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NTS)

            Creating dbconsole 11.2 fails with "Exception in thread "main" oracle.sysman.emcp.exception.DatabaseUnavailableException: Database instance unavailable" on Windows (Doc ID 1332546.1)

            Regards,

            Sve

                I've updated the sqlnet.ora as follows, with no effect

                NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)

                ADR_BASE = /opt/oracle

                    Not sure what your looking for so I ran the

                      Any error indications at the logs files ?

                      Are you able to connect to the database through sqlplus using sysman and dbsnmp ?

                        you NEVER should be running as "root" when accessing any Oracle DB!

                        you should be logged in as OS use "oracle" or which ever user owns the Oracle software directory & files

                          I previously (this morning) ran the emca -deconfig dbcontrol db -repos drop command successfully which dropped the sysman user and all the privs associated with it.

                          I can connect as dbsnmp

                          SQL> connect dbsnmp/*********@alf

                          Connected.

                            sb92072 - I totally agree with you about root - but as I'm in a customer site I have not control over the access they grant me.

                                  I've tried to run the dbca app from command line but nothing happens - at first it said

                                  oracle@chalf002:/opt/oracle/diag/rdbms/alf/alf> dbca

                                  DISPLAY not set.

                                  so I ran

                                  oracle@chalf002:/opt/oracle/diag/rdbms/alf/alf> export DISPLAY=:0

                                  Though not sure if that is the correct entry (I'm not a Linux person really)

                                  Then when I ran dbca it didn't error but nothing happened.

                                  Any ideas?
