If there wasn't any affect, why bother to upgrade . But seriously, nobody will take the responsibility for upgrading your system beside yourself. As far as compatibility and proper operation concerns, Oracle takes care of it and does extensive testing according to several white papers, which should be the best guarantee you have that there won't be negative affects or suprises. However, if you are doing anything fancy or are worried too much, install a test system. Personally I see no reason to be overcautious about a quarterly update of a kernel. In the worse case, you can downgrade.
