    Memory overload from Oracle Instance

    JohnL

      Hello, I need help.

Platform - Oracle 11g 64bit on Windows Enterprise server 2008 64bit.  64 GB of ram with 2 CPUs totalling 24 cores

We experienced a RAM overload from the database caused by a recursive query.  The Oracle process used almost all 64 GB of ram available on the server and brought all other processing to a near standstill.

With the max_memory_target parameter set to 5570035712 bytes, how could this happen and how do we prevent it from happening in the future?

Thanks in advance for your help!

      John
