Can someone please help me add an additional SAS drive the is an exact copy of what is currently running in the Netra 210 that is its host. The server only contains this one drive that is over 5 years old and is currently displaying read errors and media errors and ultimately will fail. My goal is to add another disk of the same properties and perform a dd on the drive which I would like to ultimately replace the failed drive with this one also making it bootable. By doing this would I be able to save the existing image by performing a fsck on the new drive to correct any database errors?
If your disk reports read errors and media errors, then a fsck will not fix missing blocks. If some of the errors are directly where data exist, then your data are corrupted. A restore must be done .
And if you want an exact copy of the current disk, then I will suggest to use SVM to do a software mirror. This will copy all blocks and you can boot directly on the new device just after the operation is done.
