    Does OEM 12c Cloud Control Require APEX

    BillW

      Greetings,

      This may seem a strange question but I am very strange. My 11.2.0.3.0 OEM repository database has been mysteriously restarting each morning at a regular time. (I have been struggling with this for a while now so it may seem familiar). I didn't think of it previously but now am beginning to wonder if there is a relation. Looking at dbms_jobs I see an Application Express job running daily just a few seconds before the database shutdown command is issued -

      SQL> select * from dba_jobs;

             JOB LOG_USER                       PRIV_USER

      ---------- ------------------------------ ------------------------------

      SCHEMA_USER                    LAST_DATE LAST_SEC

      ------------------------------ --------- --------------------------------

      THIS_DATE THIS_SEC                         NEXT_DATE

      The wwv_flow_cache.purge_sessions timing is coincident with the database restarting. I do see it being rescheduled during the day but there is always a scheduled time in the morning at about the same time. I do not remember doing anything to install, configure or start APEX. My questions -

      1) Is this part of the default RDBMS or OMS installation?

      2) Is this job required by the OEM?

      3) If ans. to question 2 is yes, why?

      4) Why is it restarting my database.

      Any information greatly appreciated. Thank you.

              RDBMS

          2) Is this job required by the OEM?

              No

          3) If ans. to question 2 is yes, why?

              NA

          4) Why is it restarting my database.

              Need DB alert log and trace file generated

          As part of installation 11.2.0.1 DB has got APEX_030200

          To remove the release 3.2 schema:

          Start SQL*Plus and connect to the database where Oracle Application Express is installed as SYS specifying the SYSDBA role:

          On Windows:

          SYSTEM_DRIVE:\ sqlplus /nolog

          SQL> SQL> CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA

          Enter password: SYS_password

          On UNIX and Linux:

          $ sqlplus /nolog

          SQL> SQL> CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA

          Enter password: SYS_password

          Execute the following command:

          DROP USER APEX_030200 CASCADE;

            Hi Bill,

            Yes 12c cloud control does not require APEX

            If you are not using APEX for any other purpose then I would recommend to use @apxremov.sql script for removing Oracle Application Express from the database

            To remove Oracle Application Express from the database:

            Change your working directory to the apex directory where you unzipped the Oracle Application Express software.

            Start SQL*Plus and connect to the database where Oracle Application Express is installed as SYS specifying the SYSDBA role:

            On Windows:

            SYSTEM_DRIVE:\ sqlplus /nolog

            SQL> SQL> CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA

            Enter password: SYS_password

            On UNIX and Linux:

            $ sqlplus /nolog

            SQL> SQL> CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA

            Enter password: SYS_password

            Execute the following command:

            SQL> @apxremov.sql

            e.g

            cd /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/apex

            sqlplus sys/oracle as sysdba

            @apxremov.sql
