        please copy orapw in primary to Secondary location, and check again.

        bash-3.2$ scp /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/dbs/orapwXX Standby_ip:/u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1/dbs/orapwXXX

              NO,  please copy orapw in primary to Secondary location, and check again.

              sqlplus sys/oracle@orcl_stby as sysdba

                Yes I did copy the password file. Besides I am connecting locally at stanby server2.

                  Copy password file from priamry side  $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapworcl file to standby side  $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapworcl_stby

                  Litener stop start :

                  lsnrctl stop

                  lsnrctl start

                    Make sure the parameter "remote_login_passwordfile" is set to SHARED or EXCLUSIVE on both side.

                      Ok, I will try to change sys password again and copy to standby

                          Hi,

                          My error was confusing

                          I changed my sys password as : alter user sys identified by oracle123;

                          The I copied the orapworcl to standby.

                          If I login as: sqlplus sys/oracle123 as sysdba   ( this is ok  so this means it was able to read orapworcl since the password was changed)

                          but if I login as: sqlplus sys/oracle123@orcl_stby ( ora-1031) (this thing can not read orapworcl , but when I changed it to orapwORCL is was able to connect

                          So confusing the docs I followed to create the standby db. Why is that my primary  instance name is "orcl" while my standby instance name is "ORCL"??? What made it uppercase?

                          I thought it is not key sensitive?

                          How can I sync my db names?

                          At Primary:

                          ========

                          How do I change all occurrence of ORCL to orcl at my standby?

                            it is not possible.

                            You  must copy orapworcl file from  primary to standby  side with  name orapwORCL_STBY, if you instance name/ sid ORCL_STBY

                            You must change:

                            db_file_name_convert                 string      orcl,orcl_stby

                            log_file_name_convert                string      orcl,orcl_stby

                            instance_name                        string      ORCL_STBY

                            How do I change all occurrence of ORCL to orcl at my standby?

                            You must change in SPFILE,

                            alter system set db_file_name_convert='orcl,orcl_stby' scope=SPFILE;

                            alter system set log_file_name_convert='orcl,orcl_stby' scope=SPFILE;

                            Restart standby database;

                                it is not possible.

                                Why was I able to connect?

                                I have lots of mixed case upper and lower ORCL names in my dbs folder. How do I cleanup the mess to change it all to lowercase orcl.???

                                  Now standby  using : orapwORCL password file, spfileORCL.ora server parameter files.

                                  What is SID name now ?

                                  Create a parameter file correctly (db_unique_name, instance_name ORCL_STBY), start standby database with  this paramerter file,

                                  Create SPFILE from this parameter file, change password file name from standby database.

                                  Restart database with  SPFILE

                                  Regards
